Blog by Christine Canada: Oh Canada

As this is my first post for WorldFashionBlogs.com, and I am representing Canadians, as part of a small Canadian contingency; I thought I would post on all the amazing Canadian fashion talent around the world.  Some small in stature, some household fashion names, all amazing talents, that keep us looking fabulous!

Dsquared- The best known of the bunch is certainly this dynamic brotherly duo, Dean and Dan Caten, of DSquared.  They live and show in Milan, but Toronto, their hometown, is still a hunting ground for inspiration.  I have actually run into them, myself, in one of mine and theirs, favorite vintage shops, Cabaret.

Erdem- Erdem Moralioglu’s eponymous label is a celebration of unique prints, elegant color and precision cuts.  His colour combinations make me swoon, but the real glory in what Erdem does is in the details, the embroidery, the lace, the finishing and the cut.  Erdem lives and shows in London.

Mark Fast- Mark Fast another Canuck showing in London, is known as the “knit-meister”.  He has weaved and knit his way into our hearts, with stunning, individual showstopping pieces.  He is a young master of knitwear to the nth degree, but he is also expanding his brand to become more than just that.

Rad Hourani- Rad is known for his unisex collections, in fact he actually has boiled everything down to six pieces, that can be worn in various different ways.  He is the epitome of modern design, in fact some might say he is almost a utopian futurist in his design esthetic.  I say, it’s pretty cool.

Chloe Comme Parris- These two young designers, sisters, Chloe and Parris; could actually be the younger cousins of Rad.  They two a futurists, but in a softer more feminine manner.  Chloe and Parris, have only been at it a few seasons, but you can already see the growth and development, into a seriously sought after label.  These two ladies live and work in Toronto.

Arthur Mendonca- One of my longstanding, local Canadian favorites.  Arthur always manages to make a women look sexy and sophisticated; it is a beautiful balance, every time.

Joe Fresh- Fast, funky fashion, starting with basics, but now with some weight and leverage behind the brand, including it’s own Fifth Avenue shop in NYC; it is expanding and becoming a little more fashion savvy.

Line- Predominantly knitwear, although it is impressive how much variety a single knitwear collection can have.  Line has pushed the boundaries of what one thinks is knitwear, and given us some serious must haves, season after season.

Obakki- Not only does Obakki have beautiful, sexy and simple clothes; it has a heart as well.  The Obakki Foundation helps bring water and education to less fortunate people in Africa, I’d say that is pretty sexy!

Smythe- Coveted by oodles and oodles of famous faces, the line of blazers and jackets, take an old idea and make it fresh and new.  No stuffy grandma blazers or sloppy boyfriend blazers here, only chic and fabulous by the ladies at Smythe.
